About Mamallapuram
Named after the Pallava king who ruled during the 7th century, Mamallapuram is a small town located on the seashore. The mystery of Mamallapuram and its sculptural extravaganza is a living testament of the artistic temperament of the Pallavas, till date it is a breathtaking experience just to watch them.
Situated just 60 km off Chennai on the Bay of Bengal coast in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Mamallapuram was a flourishing port town of the Pallava rulers of South India. Keeping the historic and artistic value of these monuments, the entire site is classified as World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Shore Temples
This is a five-storey temple build along the beach and hence the name Shore Temple. This is one of the oldest structural stone temples of South India. Built in the shape of a pyramid, the Shore Temple contains shrines of two significant Hindu deities, Siva and Vishnu.
Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary
This Bird Sanctuary is located at 40 km from Kanchipuram. Vedanthangal is a 70 acres sanctuary that was recognized as a Bird Sanctuary under the Wild Life Protection Act in 1972. The best time to visit is during October to March when a large number of migratory birds like Storks, Egrets, Cormorants, Darter, Flamingos, Pelicans, Moor hens, Herons, Kingfishers, Sandpipers, White Ibis, Spoonbills, Swans and grey Wagtails etc visit. Various tours and packages are available during this time.

By Air - The nearest airport from Mamallapuram is Chennai (Madras), located around 60 km away. One can get flights for almost all major destinations in India and abroad.
By Rail- The nearest railway station, Chengalpattu, is around 29 km away from Mamallapuram. Trains for Chennai and several other major cities in South India are available from here.
By Road- Mamallapuram is connected by road to Chennai, Tirukkalikundram, Kanchipuram (65 km), and Pondicherry. We would provide you all India tourist permit vehicles for the local transportations and also for the intercity drives.
