Within a 10 kilometer radius from Chennai City are some interesting tourist attractions. Among them are the Valluvar Kottam, a majestic monument to a great Tamil poet - Thiruvalluvar, the Marina, the second longest beach in the world, the Egmore Museum and the Kapaleeshwar Temple at Mylapore.

Mamallapuram
The town is famous for its ancient temples and sculptures and is a popular tourist destination. At the workshops, one can often find many sculptors at work, bringing to life the historic art of the traditional temple sculpture. 


Shore Temple
The 8th century temple built by the Pallava Dynasty, is an ancient relic that is a reminder of the skill of the sculptors and the powers of the Pallava dynasty.

The Rathas: (Chariots of the Pallavas)
About 2.5 km from the resort lie these famous sculptures on the seashore, built during the Pallava period, is a popular tourist attraction. 

Arjuna's Penance
The world's largest bas-relief sculpture is another popular site of historical interest, and is located about 1 km from the resort. 

Tiger Cave
This Open Air Theatre was in use during ancient times, and your mere presence there is enough to give you an idea of the lives of the people in the Pallava period. 

DakshinaChitra
This is a unique Heritage Centre located on the East Coast road in Muttukadu on the way to Mahabalipuram which offers the visitor an unforgettable and authentic insight into the lifestyles of the diverse peoples of South India. Traditional craftspersons and folk artists work and perform in the reconstructed period settings of 19th century streets, homes & workshop-spaces in the Tamil Nadu & Kerala sections. 

Kancheepuram
One of the seven most sacred places in India, it is the Episcopal seat of Adi Sankaracharya. It is also well known for the many temples located in and around the town. The ancient capital city of the Pallavas, the town is famous the world over for its fine silk sarees.

Pondicherry
The former French colony is now an industrial town and a popular tourist destination, well known for its French Style architecture, food and culture. It is close to the resort and home to many cottage industries, the Aurobindo Ashram, Auroville and Matri Mandir.

 

In 1995, Madras was renamed to the ancient name Chennai, but the former name is still widely used to date.

Fort St. George, built in 1653 by the English Company of the Eastern Indies (CAIO), houses the Secretariat and the legislative house of Tamil Nadu. The fort comprises also the oldest church Anglican of India, the church of St Mary.
