HAVE YOU EVER BEHELD A CITY WHERE TEMPLES GRACE EACH CORNER? IT’S NAMED SO FOR ITS LEGACY, BUILT THROUGH ERAS—FROM PALAVAS TO CHOLAS, EACH LEAVING THEIR MARK.
WHAT MAKES KANCHIPURAM SO REMARKABLE? I’VE HEARD IT’S CALLED THE CITY OF A THOUSAND TEMPLES—WHAT IS THE LEGEND BEHIND THIS?

A grand temple complex with a central gopuram and a sacred pond, surrounded by lush greenery and devotion.

A CITY ADORNED WITH KANCHI FLOWERS, TEMPLES STAND IN EVERY NOOK, HAVENS FOR SRI VAISHNAVISM, SHAKTISM, AND SHAIVISM, EMBRACING DIVINE HARMONY.

Sunrise & Suitcases: At 8:00 AM sharp, our journey kicks off from Chennai to the legendary City of a Thousand Temples – Kanchipuram. It’s about 75 km away, which should take roughly 3 hours—unless, of course, we get distracted by divine snacks along the way. The drive is nothing short of cinematic—think swaying green fields, sleepy cows doing their morning yoga stretches, and roadside stalls brewing up that liquid gold we call filter coffee. Honestly, even if you weren't heading to a temple town, this drive alone would make your soul go, "Ahhh!" So buckle up, roll down the windows (or don’t, if you're scared of wind-blown hair disasters), and let the temple trail adventure begin!

Refresh & Rest: First stop – Regency Kanchipuram by GRT Hotels, where you’ll check in, toss your suitcase, freshen up, and maybe have a mini crisis over which outfit to wear for temple-hopping. Once you're looking less like “I-just-woke-up” and more like “divine-ready", head down to Dakshin, the hotel's coffee shop. This isn’t your average caffeine corner—this is where the flavours of South India line up to give your taste buds a proper welcome. Tuck in, sip slow, and carb-load like a pro, because once the afternoon hits, it’s temple time—and trust us, you're gonna need all that delicious energy!

Darshan Diaries: Alright, it's officially Temple O’Clock, so put on your most comfortable footwear (you’ll thank yourself later) and get ready to channel your inner spiritual explorer. Our divine journey kicks off around noon and goes full throttle till sunset. Let’s begin!

Kamakshi Amman Temple: We start strong with the majestic Kamakshi Amman Temple—a sacred Shakti Peetha dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi (aka Parvati). Built by the Pallavas between the 5th and 8th CE (yes, it’s older than your great-great-great-grandfather!), this temple's towering gopurams and intricate carvings are a blessing to your Insta feed. #BlessedAndClicked

Ekambareswarar Temple: Next, we move to the Ekambareswarar Temple, where Lord Shiva holds the fort. It’s one of the Pancha Bhoota Stalas, representing the element Earth (Prithvi). There's a peaceful pool right in the middle, perfect for a mini reflection break. The temple is huge, so take your time and maybe stretch a little.

Sri Chitra Gupta Swamy Temple: And now for something totally unique - Sri Chitra Gupta Swamy Temple, one of the rare temples dedicated to Chitragupta, the assistant of Yama, the God of Death. This temple has a beautiful three-tiered rajagopuram, and an aura that feels both peaceful and a little mysterious—kind of like walking into your karma report card.

Winding Down: After a day packed with divine darshans, towering gopurams, and spiritual soul-searching, it's time to shift gears into chill mode. We’ll take you back to Regency Kanchipuram by GRT Hotels, where the evening is all yours. Feeling snacky? Head to the cafe, grab some crispy bites, and sip on a cup of strong filter coffee—because why not? Alternatively, if your energy levels still have a little buzz, take a stroll to the local markets. It’s souvenir time! Pick up some trinkets for the fam. Or—and this is totally allowed—just slack off. Order dinner, sprawl out, and mentally prep for Day 2, because trust us… the temple trail isn’t over yet. So, wrap yourself in comfort, let your feet thank you, and drift into a well-earned rest.

Rise, Shine & Temple Time Again: We know, we know... It’s another 8 AM start, and yes, your legs might still be recovering from yesterday’s divine cardio—but hey, this is a two-day temple-packed bonanza, and we’re going all in! So rise, shine, and pretend to be a morning person as we kick off Day 2. Once you're up and dressed, head down to Dakshin for another round of that glorious breakfast. Fill up and fuel up, and get ready—because today’s schedule is basically 'Temples. Temples. More temples'. We’re about to explore the spiritual side of every corner, and trust us, it’s worth every step.

Varadaraja Perumal Temple: You've heard of the Ramayana, you've read through Mahabharata (or at least watched the epic drama version), but here’s your chance to walk through them—literally. Welcome to the Varadaraja Perumal Temple, our first stop of the day, and boy, are we starting strong. This Vishnu temple is ancient, grand, and has a 100-pillared hall that’s basically the OG version of a mythological comic strip. Each pillar is carved with scenes straight out of Ramayana and Mahabharata, so if you ever wanted a spiritual history lesson wrapped in stunning art, here it is.

Ulagalantha Perumal Temple: Next up, we’re heading to another temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. But this one’s got a whole different flavour! Designed in classic Dravidian architectural style, this temple is basically a time machine carved in stone. It proudly houses 15 ancient inscriptions from different dynasties—Pallavas, Cholas, Sambuvarayars—aka the real MVPs of South Indian history. If you’re the kind of person who gets chills reading about royal legacies and ancient kingdoms (or just loves a good ‘Did you know?’ moment), this place will be your spiritual playground.

Kanchi Kamakoti PeethamNow for a change of pace—we’re stepping into the world of wisdom and Vedas at the Sri Kanchi Matham, also known as the Moolamnaya Sarvagnya Peetham. This isn't just a temple—it’s a Hindu centre of Vedic learning, a spiritual think tank, and the kind of place where your wisdom and spiritual legacy go hand in hand.

Afternoon Temple Tour:
Just when you thought the temple trail might slow down—nope! We’re bringing you a powerful double feature to wrap up the afternoon with flair and a bit of magic.

Sri Vazhakarutheeswarar Temple: This one’s for anyone who’s ever shouted “Where’s justice?!” into the universe. Welcome to Sri Vazhakarutheeswarar Temple, where Lord Shiva takes on the unique role of the God Who Solves Cases. Yes, seriously! This ancient temple isn’t just spiritually significant—it’s the divine courtroom of Kanchipuram. Locals have long believed that any unresolved issues brought here are divinely sorted, no lawyers needed.

Sri Sanjeevirayar (Anjaneyar) Temple: Calling all Ramayana fans—we’re ending with a legend! At the Sri Sanjeevirayar Temple, you’ll meet a rare version of Sri Hanuman, known here as Sanjeevirayar. Why the unique name? Legend says that when Hanuman was carrying the Sanjeevi Parvatha (the magical healing hill) to save Lakshmana, tiny bits of it fell at this very spot. As a result, this temple became a power-packed zone of devotion, strength, and healing.

Thanks for Visiting: And just like that… our temple-hopping, filter-coffee-sipping, history-soaked Kanchipuram temples' tour comes to a close. As the evening sets in, we’ll escort you back to your hotel to begin the noble quest of packing. Don’t forget to double-check those bags—especially the souvenirs you picked up for your family (and maybe a few "accidental" self-gifts too). You really don’t want to leave behind that beautiful silk or the tiny Hanuman idol.

And hey, if you’re already thinking, “One more day would’ve been perfect”—we hear you. That’s why we’ve listed some tour packages down below, just in case you feel like extending the magic. Go on, check them out. You know you want to. Read More

DAY 1: TRICHY ARRIVAL - TANJORE 🛕

We bring our A-game when it’s time to meet you at Trichy International Airport. Picture this: your tour guide greets you with a beaming smile, and suddenly, a chariot—yes, a Radha Sarathi—arrives to whisk you away through the enchanting city of Tirchy. (Don’t worry, we swapped the horse for a more modern ride.)

Your first stop on this divine journey is to meet none other than the Moon God, Chandran. Feel free to visit him in the morning, or even when you're feeling a bit “moody”—he’s always happy to help! Bow to him at the Chandran Temple, his humble abode, and ask for relief from the infamous Chandra Dosha. That nagging pain or suffering? He’s got you covered with a sprinkle of celestial charm.

Once you’ve slipped on your sandals (because let’s face it, we don’t want any temple trouble), it’s back in the chariot for the next leg of the journey. Hold tight as you glide toward the Aalangudi Apatsahayesvarar Temple, better known as the Guru Temple. This is the court of Jupiter, or as he’s called in the heavens, Brihaspati. Pray for wisdom, education, and the fine arts—maybe you’ll even impress Lord Indra himself with your newfound intellect.

With your thoughts well-fed, it's time to treat your appetite! Enjoy a hearty meal before heading to Suriyanar Temple, the abode of the Sun God himself. Now, this isn’t just any temple. It’s the only one in Tamil Nadu that has all 9 shrines of the Navagraha planets. Talk about a planetary all-you-can-pray buffet!

Now, for the grand finale of day 1, we’re taking you to the Sukran Temple at Kanjanoor, dedicated to Lord Sukran (Venus). If you’re struggling with love, marriage, or perhaps a little extra glow-up, Lord Sukran’s got your back. He’s said to help resolve issues in relationships, beauty, and comforts—probably the most adored deity by men, considering he's known to ensure the well-being of their wives (talk about a cosmic wingman!)

After all the divine adventures, it’s time to rest your celestial soul at Great Trails River View Resort Thanjavur by GRT Hotels, your haven for the night. Settle into the lush surroundings, breathe in the rustic air, and get ready for another heavenly day. Recharge and prepare for more divine discoveries tomorrow—we’re not done with the gods just yet!
